Celebrate Halloween 2010 In San Francisco With A Trick Or Treat Upon Check-In At Hilton San Francisco Financial District
October 04, 2010
SAN FRANCISCO - Calling all super heroes, vampires and princesses! Trick or treat for ghostly goods upon check-in at the haunted Hilton San Francisco Financial District. Over Halloween weekend from Oct. 29-31, 2010, Hilton San Francisco Financial District guests may choose from a variety of treats such as Hilton HHonors points, restaurant discounts, complimentary movie and candy. Arrive in costume, and you may win a free hotel stay for one night on our 13th floor…if you can find it. If you should win, we’ll gladly honor your prize on a floor that actually exists! Otherwise, rates begin at $155, based on availability, for the luckless lot.
Spooky Stints
An adult playground on All Hallow’s-Eve, San Francisco has no shortage of events for the 21 and over set. Don your most creative costume and get your groove on at Nightmare on Van Ness in the Regency Ballroom, featuring LMFAO. Party with the dearly departed at Club Blood, located at Ruby Skye. Hosted by vampires, take your chances over three nights on passion, love and eternity. Stationed at City Hall, frolic at the SF Halloween Ball. Experience body shaking beats and an occasional glimpse of a city politico spirit wandering the halls. Celebrate Brazilian style at the pirate themed Brazilian Halloween Ball. Hosted at Sens Restaurant and Lounge along the waterfront, beware of One-Eyed Willy. Stay on his good side or he’ll make you walk to the plank!
Choose from a variety of family-friendly eerie attractions if you’ve got little ones in tow. The nearby Yerba Buena Gardens Festival presents its 10th annual Gardens Halloween Costume Walk on Sunday from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. There will be live music, interactive performances, and a Halloween costume parade for children under 10. Nocturnal souls will convene on the San Francisco Zoo’s Spooktacular Twilight Tour. Use your night vision to properly experience an evening safari, spooky animals, and pumpkin carvings. The California Academy of Sciences is celebrating the spirits at their SuperNatural Festival. The Academy encourages guests to face their fears and join them for a costume parade, scavenger hunt, and encounters with creep-crawly critters.
Bigger kids, along with their folks, are welcome to take one step closer to the city’s spirits on the San Francisco Chinatown Ghost Hunt Tour, located right outside our front door. Venture through dark passageways by lamplight where souls are rumored to appear just after twilight. For more chills and thrills, check out the San Francisco Ghost Hunt. Something unexplainable is guaranteed on almost every tour.
Haunted History
The historic landmark site of Hilton San Francisco Financial District is located along The Barbary Coast - San Francisco’s original shoreline. A rough neighborhood known for its corruption and crime, a vigilante committee formed in 1851 and held “necktie” (hanging) parties across the street in Portsmouth Plaza to discourage criminal behavior. Our neighborhood is far removed from its sorted past today, but if you watch closely, you may see a haunted figure with a noose around his neck crossing the bridge that connects Portsmouth Plaza to our hotel.
In 1900, the Hall of Justice was built here at 750 Kearny Street. Along with courtrooms and police headquarters, the Hall of Justice also housed the San Francisco County morgue, rumored to be located in the basement. Today, people often hear singing and see visions of a lady dressed in black Victorian attire on the lowest level of our basement garage. Don’t be alarmed if you find a black cat crossing your path – it is only the spirit of Clarence, our former house cat who will undoubtedly bring you good luck!
