School Children Commemorate the Past and Look to the Future at St George’s Park

BURTON-UPON-TRENT, U.K. - Hilton and Hampton by Hilton at St George's Park, in partnership with The Football Association (The FA), Burton and South Derbyshire College and main contractor Bowmer and Kirkland, are working with children from the region to ensure that the heritage of St George's Park is captured forever by creating a time capsule, which will be buried in the courtyard between the two hotels.
Children from local schools and students from Burton and South Derbyshire College will be tasked with creating a list of items to both pay tribute to the history of St George's Park, which is on the site of the former home of the Bass family, as well as recognising its future as the home of English football.
Greg Crawford, general manager of Hilton and Hampton by Hilton St George's Park, said, "St George's Park is a development of national importance so we are delighted to be able to work with both our partners and the local community to ensure that its history and its future are recognised."
Julie Harrington, Managing Director of St. George's Park, added, "Community engagement is a key priority for St. George's Park and once we open the doors we look forward to welcoming countless numbers of local young people. The time capsule activity is a great start and we're delighted to be involved in the project."
Neil Brook, Bowmer & Kirkland Project Director, said, "St George's Park will be here for many future generations of the local community and so it is appropriate that the youngest footballing fans of today are involved with burying the time capsule."
Dawn Ward OBE, CEO and Principal of BSDC added, "Our communities are incredibly excited about St George's Park and what it will offer our locality now and in the future. This is a great opportunity for local young people to play their part in St George's Park's history. The content of the time capsule will give its future discoverers a historical view of what St George's Park meant to young people at the time of burial".
To launch the time capsule project students were invited to a special community day on 23rd April, 2012 at St George's Park where they were able to experience all the facilities the development has to offer including coaching sessions given by FA Learning and a tour of the site given by Bowmer and Kirkland.
Any young people who want to be involved in the competition should list their three suggested time capsule content items to firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com. Entries should be submitted by 12 noon on the 4th May, 2012.
