PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -  A reception and auction benefitting The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research (MJFF) will take place on Friday, June 26 at the Hilton Inn at Penn in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Hosted by the hotel's Director of Banquet Services, David Dorsey, the event is being generously underwritten by the Hilton Inn at Penn as well as several Food and Beverage sponsors.

The evening, which will begin with a presentation about The Michael J. Fox Foundation's mission and an update on research currently being funded, will feature Karen Leies, Vice President of Development and Todd Scherer, Vice President, Research Programs - both with MJFF -- as well as Andrew Siderowf, MD, Associate Professor of Neurology at The Pennsylvania Hospital. A Q&A session will follow.

David, who was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease (PD) at age 39, aims to raise $10,000 or more to enable MJFF to continue aggressively funding research to find better treatments and a cure for the disease. He is hosting this event as a member of Team Fox, the Foundation's grassroots community fundraising arm geared to help members worldwide raise funds and awareness for MJFF.

"Less than a year after I was diagnosed with young on-set Parkinson's disease, my cousin ran the 2007 ING New York City Marathon to raise funds for Team Fox in my honor, said Dorsey. "I was inspired to get involved and motivated to host my own fundraising event. The Foundation represents the millions of people, like myself, who have PD and are in need of treatments. They fund the research that will eventually lead to a cure," Dorsey added.

David has been employed by the Hilton Inn at Penn for six years and resides in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey with his wife Colleen and two children.

More than six million people worldwide are living with Parkinson's disease - a chronic, degenerative neurological disorder whose symptoms typically progress from mild tremors to complete physical incapacitation. There is no known cure for Parkinson's disease. Current treatments mask symptoms but do not alter or slow disease progression.

In the United States, 60,000 new cases will be diagnosed this year alone. The annual economic cost of Parkinson's in the U.S. is estimated to exceed $25 billion.

The Michael J. Fox Foundation is dedicated to ensuring the development of better treatments, and ultimately a cure, for Parkinson's disease through an aggressively funded research agenda. MJFF has funded over $142 million in research to date.
