Hilton Kuching's 21st Anniversary Celebration Includes Preserving “Penambangs”

KUCHING, Malaysia -  Penambangs (longboat taxis) are iconic to Kuching; ferrying passengers from the Kuching Waterfront to the Malay villages across Sarawak River. Embracing the city's local culture while simultaneously assisting to preserve the condition of these boats, Hilton Kuching recently flagged off 7 ‘adopted' sampans at the Sarawak River. The hotel first ‘adopted' river taxis in 1995. Last year, Hilton re-launched the sampan campaign, undertaking to equip 7 boats with new roofing, paintwork, as well as providing customized uniforms for the boatmen.

The hotel's 21st Anniversary celebrations recently saw General Manager of Hilton Kuching, Peter Simson flagging off the Hilton ‘penambangs' following a renewal of the boat sponsorship venture. The project saw the boats getting a fresh coat of paint with their boatmen receiving new sets of uniforms.

Hilton Kuching first opened its doors on the 15 July 1988. In conjunction with its 21st Anniversary, the hotel recently organized 21 days and 21 nights of specials and promotions, besides co-organising the very successful Hilton-BCCK 8km Dash For Charity, which raised over RM37,000 for six different charitable organizations.

Hilton Kuching's 21st Anniversary celebration has been a great success and the talk of the town - since January, the hotel has hosted an average of ten events every twenty-first of every month in honour of the Anniversary. After the 21 Days and 21 Nights festivities, the hotel has since resumed monthly celebrations with special promotions held on every twenty-first of every month.
