March 30, 2010
HUA HIN, Thailand - Hilton Hua Hin Resort & Spa joined Hilton hotels all over the world March 27 to take part in Earth Hour, a climate change initiative from the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).
This year, more than 100 countries and territories have pledged to turn off their lights for one hour March 27 at 8:30 p.m. local time. In Thailand, countless organisations have agreed to participate and more are signing up on a daily basis, joining millions more people all over the world.
Allowing hotel guest to taking part in some of the following earth hour related activities includes:
- Switching off external hotel lights between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on March 27
- Using candles to light all of our restaurants
- Hosting a special candle lighting session in the Lobby during the “Black Out Hour”, starting at 8:30 p.m.
- Guests can also design their own “Love The Earth Card” and share their ideas on how to help reduce global warming in a banana leaf envelop and hang it on the Earth Hour Tree.
Money will be donated to:
- Tigers in the WWF's Tx2 campaign that aims to put in place the necessary conditions to double the wild tiger population by the next Year of the Tiger in 2022.
- The purchase of Baby Mangrove trees to restore and reserve the mangrove forest at Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park, reducing global warming problem
“It is a unique initiative that brings together partners regionally and nationally to restore ecosystems and improve livelihoods in severely degraded coastal zones. It also makes provision for the inclusion of integrated ecosystem concerns into development processes at local and national levels,” said Mr. Veera Sriwattanatrakul, The Governor of Prachuabkhirikhan and advisor of this project.
The participants also got a chance to visit Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park namely Thailand’s major Mangrove Plantation Project that will be used to expand the monitoring to neighbouring nesting beaches and to raise awareness about sea lives and the need to protect them.
