Hilton Colombo Honoured With ISO 22000

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka - Hilton Colombo has been honoured with the ISO 22000:2005 certificate on 5th July 2011 from SGS Sri Lanka affiliated to SGS Switzerland. It is a requirement of Food and Safety Management Systems (FSMS) for any organization in the food chain to obtain this certification. ISO 22000:2005 is a management system designed to enable organizations to control food safety hazards along the food chain in order to ensure that food is safe at the time of consumption.

The structure of the ISO 22000 covers, food safety management, management responsibility, resource management, planning and realization of safe products and validation, verification, improvement of food safety management. The standard also includes HACCP principles which are stated in a more organized manner.

The whole safety management operation was headed by Executive Chef, Rohan Fernandopulle with the assistance of the food and safety team leader Chef Samila Kumarasinghe and supported by the food safety team, individuals selected from kitchen. There are eleven kitchens and twelve Food & Beverage outlets to monitor which is indeed not an easy task.

Executive Chef, Rohan Fernandopulle, the key motivator of the project said: ”Hilton Colombo has always dealt with quality and best practice; it is indeed an honour to be awarded by this internationally recognized certification”

Further he added that serving safe food is not an option in Hilton Colombo, but having a moral and a legal obligation towards our guests and team members is important.

The standard not only improves the organization’s image but also improves its operations, performance of team members, satisfaction of customers and quality of production.
